New Demo by Chuck Duran—Hint: It Rocks

Well, I finally had to do it.

Update my commercial demo.

Coming in at about five years old, it had served me well, garnering me many auditions, and several agents over the years including my current and completely awesome LA rep—Division One Talent—and my regional agent—Heyman Talent out of Ohio.

But, it was outdated, not marketed to my voice type—heck I didn’t even know what that was until I read my agent’s book: From Audition to Yes (watch for a blog on that soon)—and I had improved so much it didn’t even begin to show what I could do.

To be completely transparent, I didn’t come to this realization all on my own, it took a little fire under my a*s—and that was the SOVAS Convention. I’d been nominated for my first award (super exciting!) for a spokesperson campaign I did for Newport Aquarium, so I decided I should see what their conference was all about.

That’s where I learned of Chuck Duran, the guy who makes:

At a seminar on demos, I was blown away by his infectious energy, marketing knowledge, and everything he knew about the business. All the while, I sheepishly thought about my current demo...

It was like a warm teddy bear, hard to let go, whose fur was all worn off.

I needed an upgrade!

Before that talk was even over, I emailed Chuck, then went on to hire him a few days later. I’m not usually so spontaneous, but every part of my being said, “this is the guy who’s going to knock it out of the ballpark.”

Flash forward a few months later, and my intuition was right:

For all you voiceover artists out there, I can’t recommend Chuck highly enough: he knows how to sell your voice because he understands the market and where you fit, he makes sure he gives you variety on your demo yet captures your essence, he’s an excellent director (if only I could stick him in my pocket for every audition), easy to work with, professional, a top-notch engineer, and lives up to the hype of making Demos That Rock!

Founder of Demos That Rock, Chuck Duran has built a reputation for creating demos that don’t just sound good—they get results that consistently lead to representation, bookings, and momentum. In addition to being one of the most sought-after producers of voiceover demos, he’s composed and performed music for award-winning films, including My Cousin Vinny, along with projects for Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox, Paramount, and Disney, produced commercials for Nike, Chevrolet, and Budweiser, and is the co-host of VO Buzz Weekly with Stacey Aswad. Chuck is also a professional musician who is the lead guitarist for the band, Rock Sugar, a contributor to Japanese and European hit rock albums, and is the lead singer in Disney XD’s hit series I’m In The Band.
